Welcome back to VGA's Movie Reviews and welcome to the first installment of my Halloween Marathon. For this whole month I'll be doing reviews of movies, as well as some TV shows and video games that are Halloween or horror related. So to start off our countdown we will begin with a major Classic in the horror genre and a double feature of two great movies. Today we're reviewing George Romero's Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead.

George Romero is a legend amongst horror film directors, with people citing him as creating zombies. These movies are one of the first zombie movies to appear to the public and are still talked about today. Now onto the stories of each.

Night of the Living Dead follows a group of people as they take shelter in a farmhouse during the onset of the apocalypse, which is believed to be caused by a space probe that exploded in the earth's atmosphere mutating the brain of the deceased, which causes them to rise from the dead, and also have a hunger for human flesh.

Dawn of the Dead takes place years later and the apocalypse has gotten way out of hand. The government is issuing licenses on firearms and are urging people to fight back against the zombies. A group of survivors on the run take shelter from the zombies in a mall but when the zombies later break in they are forced to fight for survival.

Night of the Living Dead as the first movie fares very well. For a movie with a low budget they definitely did the best with what they had. While there are some things that aren't looking scary for some viewers, the suspense of the film is what really creates the best parts of the movie. The story is well rounded and the actors all do a very good job.

Dawn of the Dead has definitely done a lot more with the whole thing. With better effects the zombies look even creepier and the effects done with the blood and gore really make it scary. The actors all do good jobs and the plot is very well rounded as the first film.

In conclusion I love both of these movies and they're my favorites in the Romero Living Dead films. I recommend them to anybody out there.
